The Low Down on Joint Protectors

The Low Down on Joint Protectors If you own a pool cue, this is an email you simply must read. Joint Protectors, also known as Joint Caps, are a must have for any pool cue owner. When you break your cue down, even if you're storing it in a good case, your collar, joint and pin are still exposed. A good joint protector set will protect these essential parts of your cue, extending the overall life of your cue.

Joint protectors come in all shapes and sizes, as pool cues are manufactured with a number of different pin sizes. The most common pin sizes are 5/16 x 14, 5/16 x 18, 3/8 x 10 and 3/8 x 14. In addition to these sizes, there are some cues like Lucasi cues that use a quick release joint which require the Predator Joint Protector set.

The following is a general break down of pin sizes most often used by manufacturer:

5/16 x 14
Schon
Joss
Balabushka (new)
Predator
Falcon

5/16 x 18
Meucci
Players (non-Uniloc)
Viking

3/8 x 10

Keep in mind that some cuemakers do change the pin styles and sizes they use, so doublecheck your cue to make sure you have the right pin size. As always, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to email us or call toll free at 866-THE-DAWG.
